KNIFE AGAINST KNIFE
One of the most difficult realities anyone could experience aside from being confronted with a gun is facing someone with a knife. An assault with a knife is one of the most common crimes committed on the streets or anywhere including within the supposed safety of our homes. It's praticaly a common weapon used by thugs beacause it can be easily accessed or purchased everywhere, it is cheaper than firearms, easy to carry, conceal, deploy and disposed off after use. Most Filipino martial arts specifically addresses these types of training with blades. And as of most FMA's structured training, handling of weapons comes first before empty hands. Our ancestors did it this way due to the fact that it is always best to understand how it operates in order to raise your chances of surviving an attack against it. That is why knife to knife training is very much a part of Filipino martial arts.
Now does knife fights happen? Yes it does although not very often. So why learn it? Well just in case someone breaks inside your house with a weapon, then I would bet that since not everybody owns or have guns, then I'm pretty sure that every house has a knife in the kitchen or somewhere that could be used to defend oneself and everyone inside that house except the intruder.
Caution: Be extremely careful when sparring with any type of training blades. Wear eye protection and vests to avoid unnecessary injuries. Me and my partner here were just a little bit careless by using dull blades here without any protection for sparring.
